Special Thanks from My Dad and Me on National Doctors' Day

National Doctors' Day is a time to celebrate physicians. So today, I’m celebrating by sharing a personal story about the doctors (and healthcare team) who forever impacted my life. In 2015, my dad got a second chance at life due to one generous donor and a team of incredible physicians and nurses.

IMG_0709In honor of National Doctors' Day, I wanted to share a personal story to celebrate the physicians (and entire care team) who forever impacted my life.

In 2015, my dad got a second chance at life due to one generous donor and a team of incredible physicians and nurses at UT Southwestern in Dallas. I will never forget the compassion and great medical care they provided throughout my dad’s journey.

The road to finding my dad’s new heart wasn’t easy. We went through countless routine check-ups with a variety of specialtists, to get him approved for the donor’s list. We had a lot of scares along the way— like when doctors had to put a short pause on his open heart surgery due to an undiscovered Heparin allergy.  While waiting to get his new heart, the few things keeping him going were positive thoughts, Milrinone and close monitoring from the Cardiology team.

IMG_0707Thankfully, my dad was lucky enough to receive a donor within two weeks of being on the transplant list. I remember it like it was yesterday; we were told he'd be getting a new heart, we rushed to the hospital and then anxiously waited to find out the heart's condition. Our second chance at life with my dad would've never been possible without his amazing doctors and care team.

Fast forward two and a half years later, my dad is healthy and I now work with physician’s every day in my role here at Practice EHR. My appreciation for what they do has continued to grow tremendously. Every day, I see them running private practices, managing hectic schedules, answering patient calls, answering emails, and handling many other things, all while saving lives and trying to have one of their own.

Thank you to the UT Southwestern team for taking time out of your life, so that my dad has a chance to live his. And thank you to every physician out there who so graciously does it all, while also helping others. Thank you, we appreciate you and happy Doctors' Day!
